Project Engage
Project Engage will support parents, carers and guardians to navigate their child’s online and technology-assisted behaviour. The project is innovative in style, moving deeper from simply exploring online safety to tackling core developmental and psychological factors that support a preventative approach to SGBV and the radicalising effects of online spaces like “the manosphere” at a foundational level. Our 6-week programme explores a range of current and complex themes currently facing parents, carers and guardians.
Project Engage will explore the following core topics:
Children’s Psycho-sexual Development, The Impact of Pornography and Managing Risk, Social Media, Online Communications and Radicalisation, Gaming, Online Exploitation, Models of Parental Sex Education, Online and Technology Use, and Safety Planning.
These evidence-informed inputs will include consideration of neurodiversity and provide support plans for individuals with additional support needs, as these often-marginalised groups are at a higher risk of experiencing exploitation or abuse.
Project Engage aims to achieve the following outcomes for participants and their families:
-
Ensure that children, young people and families thrive
-
Reduce the long-lasting effects of intergenerational trauma by encompassing a whole-family and psycho-educational approach
-
Empower parents and carers with knowledge, gaining further peer support connections
-
Improve mental health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people
-
Improve confidence in parents and carers managing technology and online behaviour within the family home
Beneficiaries for this project will include parents, carers, wider family networks, children and young people. By endorsing a socio-ecological response to SGBV prevention, Project Engage will support foundation-level prevention by equipping parents and carers with the skills to manage their child or young person’s online behaviour, ensuring positive strategies are embedded within a family or care culture whilst upholding a rights-respecting approach.
